What a move from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula is like

Every move from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula has two linked phases. The first is the island leg: we pick up at your home, pack, disassemble the furniture that needs it, and take the cargo to the departure port, usually the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife or the Puerto de La Luz and Las Palmas. The second is the maritime leg and mainland distribution: your belongings travel by ship to Cádiz, Valencia, or Barcelona, and from there a truck takes them to your new address, whether a capital or an inland town.

The difference from a standard domestic move is in two respects: the ship imposes fixed departure dates (you can't improvise the day) and shipping goods from the Canary Islands requires customs declaration. That's why a move to the Peninsula is planned further in advance than a local one: it's best to start organizing it three or four weeks ahead.

Which islands we pick up from

We pick up from all islands in the archipelago. In Tenerife and Gran Canaria, we work with our own teams and direct departures from their ports. From Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, and La Gomera and El Hierro, we add a prior inter-island hop to the connection port, which is already included in the same fixed price quote: you don't have to hire two services or coordinate transshipments yourself. Which mainland destinations we deliver to

We deliver door to door across the entire Peninsula, not just to capitals. The most common destinations for people leaving the islands are Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Cádiz, Málaga, Zaragoza, Bilbao, and Alicante, but we also cover small towns and rural areas: the final distribution is by road from the arrival port. If your destination is the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, or Melilla, we can arrange that too, although the route changes and it's best to check on a case-by-case basis.

Each route has its port, its timeline, and its particularities at the destination. These are the ones we move the most, with their own pages:

Shared container or exclusive container

Just like on the inbound, the cargo can travel in two ways. In shared container, you share the container with other shipments and pay only for the cubic meters you occupy: it's the standard option and the most cost-effective for apartments and medium-sized homes. In exclusive container, your belongings travel alone, which makes sense for large homes, when there's a lot of furniture, or when you want the tightest possible timeline, because it doesn't depend on consolidation being completed.

There's a nuance specific to departures from the islands: departure frequency is lower than in the Peninsula-Canary Islands direction on some lines, so with shared container the shipping date comes first. Paperwork and tax matters when leaving the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands have their own tax regime and are outside the VAT territory. That means bringing your furniture to the Peninsula is, administratively speaking, an import: you need to file the DUA and, in principle, the goods would be subject to VAT.

The good news is that there's an exemption for change of habitual residence. If you're truly moving, with your used personal belongings, you can claim it and not pay VAT on your belongings. The requirements, broadly speaking, are: having had your habitual residence in the Canary Islands for the minimum required period, that the items are used personal goods and not new merchandise, to import them within the timeframe set from the change of residence, and not to sell them during the required period of stay. Usually, documentation is requested such as the certificate of removal from the municipal register in your island municipality and registration in the new one, plus an itemized inventory of the shipment.

What your move to the Peninsula includes

• Reinforced maritime packing: double-wall cardboard, film, blankets, and corner protectors. The sea crossing adds humidity and vibration, and local move packing isn't enough.
• Disassembly and assembly of furniture at origin and destination, with hardware labeled by piece of furniture.
• Complete customs management: DUA, itemized inventory, and coordination with the customs agent.
• Bridge storage in Tenerife or Gran Canaria if you need to leave the house before the ship sails, and also at destination if you can't move in yet.

These are estimated maritime transit times: you need to add pickup, packing, and customs clearance, and they vary depending on shipping line departures and time of year. In summer and early September, demand surges and ship spots sell out faster.
