We will get back to you as soon as possible!

If you live in the Canary Islands and are planning to move to Ireland, at Horizont Atlantic we organise your international move from start to finish. We have more than 15 years of experience handling OUTBOUND removals from the islands, with our own depot in Tenerife (El Mayorazgo) and an office in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. We coordinate the sea freight in a container, the export packing, the goods-in-transit insurance and — crucially — the customs formalities both on departure from the Canary Islands and on arrival in Ireland, so that all you have to worry about is starting your new life in Dublin, Cork or wherever you're heading.

What's the route and how long does it take?

The move from the Canary Islands to Ireland is carried out mainly by sea. We collect your belongings in the south of Tenerife or in Gran Canaria, prepare them for the journey and load them into a container departing from the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Las Palmas. The usual destinations are the ports of Dublin or Cork, from where we handle the onward road transport to your new home.

The indicative transit time is several weeks. We don't quote a fixed number because it depends on real factors: whether you travel in a dedicated or shared container, the frequency of sailings to Ireland, customs clearance times and the distance itself. That's why we always give you an honest estimate based on your particular case and keep you updated on the status of your shipment.

  • Origin: collection at your home in the south of Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
  • Departure ports: Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Las Palmas.
  • Arrival ports: Dublin or Cork.
  • Air option: for urgent or smaller shipments, with a much faster transit time but a higher cost.

Customs and paperwork

This is where many people are caught off guard, so we prefer to be clear. Although Ireland is part of the European Union, the Canary Islands sit outside the EU customs union and VAT territory owing to their special-territory status. In practice, this means your move goes through an export clearance in the Canary Islands and an import clearance in Ireland, just as it would with any international shipment.

We don't want this to worry you: we handle it all. We prepare the necessary documentation, draw up a valued inventory of your belongings and process the clearances with the relevant agents at both origin and destination. For household-goods removals by someone relocating their residence there are usually specific regimes, but we don't invent figures or tax schemes: we advise you on your specific situation and take care of the paperwork.

  • Detailed, valued inventory of all your belongings.
  • Export documentation in the Canary Islands.
  • Import documentation in Ireland.
  • Coordination with the customs agents at both ends.

Options: groupage, dedicated container or air

No two moves are the same, which is why we offer several options so you only pay for what you actually need:

  • Groupage (shared container): your belongings travel alongside those of other customers in the same container. It's the most economical option, ideal if you have a medium or small volume and some flexibility on timing.
  • Dedicated container: a full container just for your belongings. It's the fastest and most direct option, recommended for whole homes or when you want to reduce handling and waiting times.
  • Air freight: reserved for urgent shipments or small volumes you need in Ireland as soon as possible. Much faster, at a proportionally higher cost.

During the initial assessment we'll explain which option best suits your volume, your budget and your dates, without pushing you to book more than you need.

Who it's for: the Irish and British community in the Canary Islands

We very often work with the large Irish and British community living in the Canary Islands who decide to return to Ireland or move there for work, family or retirement. We understand their needs well because we've spent years supporting these moves.

We're particularly active in the areas where this community is concentrated:

  • South of Tenerife: Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and the surrounding area.
  • South of Gran Canaria and its international-resident area.

We appreciate that many of our clients don't speak fluent Spanish and that much of the process — customs above all — can seem confusing from the outside. That's why we take on all the coordination and explain everything clearly at every step, so your move is a relief rather than a headache.

A complete service, from your home in the Canary Islands to your home in Ireland

Our aim is for you not to have to worry about the logistics. The full-service package includes:

  • Volume assessment beforehand, in person or by video call, to fine-tune the quote.
  • Professional export packing, using sturdy materials for a long sea journey.
  • Sea freight by groupage or dedicated container, or an air option for urgent cases.
  • Customs handled for export from the Canary Islands and import into Ireland.
  • Goods-in-transit insurance for complete peace of mind.
  • Delivery, unpacking and furniture assembly at your new Irish home.
  • Bridging storage in the Canary Islands if you need to store your belongings before shipping.

If you're getting ready to move to Ireland, tell us what you need to move and from which area. We'll give you a clear, honest estimate, with no inflated figures or surprises, and we'll make sure your belongings arrive safely from one island to the other.

Transport is carried out mainly by sea and the indicative transit time is several weeks. We don't quote a fixed timescale because it depends on whether you travel in a dedicated container or by groupage, on the frequency of sailings to Dublin or Cork and on customs clearance times. For urgent cases there's the air option, which is much faster. Once we've assessed your case, we'll give you a realistic estimate and keep you updated on the status of your shipment.

The cost depends above all on the volume of your belongings, the option you choose (groupage, dedicated container or air), the collection area in the Canary Islands, the delivery point in Ireland and any added services such as packing, storage or extended insurance. That's why we don't publish a fixed rate: we carry out a volume assessment beforehand and give you a clear, honest quote, with no surprises.

Yes. Although Ireland is in the EU, the Canary Islands sit outside the EU customs union and EU VAT owing to their special-territory status. That's why the move goes through an export clearance in the Canary Islands and an import clearance in Ireland. We handle it: we prepare the valued inventory and the documentation and coordinate with the customs agents at both ends. We advise you on your situation, without inventing figures or tax schemes.

Groupage (a shared container) is the most economical option and works well for medium or small volumes when you have some flexibility on dates. A dedicated container is faster and more direct, ideal for whole homes or when you want to reduce handling and waiting times. During the assessment we'll recommend the option that best balances your volume, your budget and your timescales.

Yes. We offer goods-in-transit insurance so your belongings travel protected throughout the entire journey by sea or air. The cover is based on the valued inventory we draw up with you before the shipment. We clearly explain what's included and what cover options you have, so you can choose with full knowledge of the facts.

There's no need for you to physically accompany the shipment or be present throughout the whole process. We take care of the packing, loading, sea transport, customs and delivery at destination. All we need to coordinate with you is the collection in the Canary Islands, the documentation for customs and the delivery to your home in Ireland. Many clients travel independently and receive their belongings once they're already in their new home.
