Knowing how much furniture storage in Tenerife costs is trickier than it looks: the monthly rate depends on the volume you book, the type of room, the area of the island and how long you plan to store your belongings. In this guide, drawing on more than 15 years operating in the Canary Islands, we explain the real price ranges, the factors that drive them and how to avoid the extras hidden in the small print.
The final price isn't a single isolated figure: it's the sum of several decisions. Understanding what carries the most weight will help you compare quotes that at first glance look different, and avoid paying extra for space or services you don't need.
This is the main factor. In Tenerife, it's usual to book by cubic metres (m³) in shared rooms, or by square metres (m²) if you rent an enclosed storage unit. As a reference, a removal from a 2-bedroom flat runs around 20-25 m³, and from a 3-bedroom flat, 30-40 m³. If you're unsure of your volume, check our guide on the cost of a removal in Tenerife, which includes equivalences to help you estimate it without surprises.
In classic furniture storage, your furniture is packed into a sealed wooden container and stored in a shared warehouse. It's the most economical option per m³ and ideal for medium and long-term storage. If you'd rather access your belongings yourself without notice, an individual storage unit will suit you better — it costs a little more per m² but gives you full autonomy.
Furniture storage facilities located in the industrial estates of the metropolitan area (Santa Cruz, La Laguna, Los Majuelos) tend to charge a different price to those in the south (Arona, Adeje) or the north (Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz). Distance isn't only reflected in the monthly rent: it also affects the pickup and delivery fee, especially if your home is in a historic centre or an area without access for a large truck.
The longer the commitment, the more room there is to negotiate. Contracts by the week or single month are more expensive per m³ than quarterly or annual ones. If your storage need is a one-off (renovation work, a chain sale, a move between islands), always ask for a quote covering the "worst-case" and "best-case" scenarios, and clarify whether there's a penalty for early exit.
The monthly rental price almost never includes pickup from your home or packing. These are separate items that you should ask to have itemised. The same goes for insurance: the storage facility's legal liability covers only the bare minimum. If you're storing valuable items, take out extended cover with declared value and keep a photographic inventory.
At Horizont Atlantic, furniture storage is calculated on the volume you occupy: around €25/m² per month, with discounts for long stays (6 or 12-month contracts) and a pro-rated first month. Here are indicative examples based on how much you're storing:
The final figure depends on the services you add (home pickup, packing, insurance at declared value) and the duration. That's why we always give you a fixed quote in writing, with no surprises; and if you don't know how many m² you need, we work it out for you during the prior assessment.
If your case is a move between islands (for example, waiting for your destination home to be ready), also check our guide on removals between the Canary Islands: combining temporary storage with sea freight is usually cheaper than doing them separately.
Many searches use these terms as synonyms, but they aren't. Shared furniture storage is cheaper by volume, but every time you need a piece of furniture you have to request access and pay a fee. An individual storage unit is more expensive, but you can go in whenever you like. Rule of thumb: if you'll access it less than once every two months, furniture storage wins; if you need frequent turnover (renovation work, a self-employed worker with materials, seasonal clothing), a storage unit works out better.
These are the adjustments that make the biggest difference to the monthly bill:
A cheap quote that's poorly explained usually ends up costing more than a clear one. Before deciding, ask — and demand in writing — what VAT the rate includes, whether the price is per sealed container or per m³ billed, what the entry/exit cost is, what insurance is included and what extras fall outside the monthly fee. If you have more general questions, our guide on how to choose a professional removal company will help you spot warning signs.
Every furniture storage facility in Tenerife has its own pricing scheme, and the only way to know how much you'll pay is a written quote with volume, services and duration spelled out in detail. If you're organising a move or need temporary storage, request your removal and furniture storage quote from Horizont Atlantic: we'll send it to you with no obligation, with a breakdown of rates and no hidden clauses.
