When the time comes to plan a move, you need to find a way to protect your belongings and furniture so they don't get damaged during transport. Packing is essential so that items like your TV don't get scratched or knocked in a way that leaves it unusable when it arrives at your new home.
So, if you're wondering how to pack a TV, we're going to show you some tips and key points to do it correctly and protect your television so it arrives at its destination in perfect condition.
Tips for moving a television during a removal
To move a television correctly during a removal, take note of the tips we show below:
Use the original box
Using the box the TV came with from the factory can be the best option for storing your television during the journey. This TV box fits the size and shape of your set perfectly, protecting it in the best possible way. If you no longer have the original box, you should protect your TV with cardboard, bubble wrap and similar materials so it doesn't get damaged on the way to your new home.
Add a “fragile” label
Although removal companies always take great care with customers' belongings, it doesn't hurt to put a label or sticker with the word “fragile” on top of the TV's packaging. With this label, the movers will instantly know they are handling a particularly fragile item that must be transported with great care to avoid damage.
Remove and dismantle accessories
To move your television during a removal, it's also important to dismantle any accessories that could be damaged during the journey. We're talking about the wall mount for the TV or the stand it rests on. These accessories can be damaged if they aren't taken apart and stored carefully. The goal is to reassemble them as soon as you settle into your new home.

Frequently asked questions about transporting televisions
How do I transport the TV if I don't have its original box?
Buy a specific TV box from a packing supplies store, or ask your professional removal service for a custom-made box. Cover the screen with a padded blanket or soft cloth, add bubble wrap around it, rigid cardboard corner protectors and an outer box. The screen must NEVER be in direct contact with bubble wrap (it can leave pressure marks).
Can the TV be transported lying flat?
It's not recommended, especially for OLED or large TVs (50"+). The weight of the screen itself resting flat on the panel can damage the glass and internal connections. Always transport it UPRIGHT, with the screen protected and the box correctly labelled "FRAGILE - THIS SIDE UP".
What about old CRT tube TVs (the heavy ones)?
These can be transported lying flat if necessary (screen facing up, NEVER facing down), but they are extremely heavy (30-50 kg for a 32"). They require at least 2 people and a hydraulic trolley. If you have the option, replace it with a new LED TV (much lighter and more efficient) instead of transporting it.
Do I need to disconnect the aerial cable separately?
Yes, and all the others too: HDMI, power, aerial cable, audio, external cables. Keep them coiled up with a label in a zip-lock bag attached to the television box. Taking a photo of the back beforehand helps you reconnect everything quickly at your destination.
Is there specific insurance for my TV during the move?
The removal company's standard liability insurance covers accidental damage during transport. For high-value TVs (large OLEDs, 8K) consider additional declared-value insurance (1-2% of value). Keep the original invoice or warranty to prove the value. More on packing in general: professional labelling system.
