REQUEST A QUOTEIf you are organising a removal to Tenerife from mainland Spain, this is the page you need: here we explain how the route works, the real transit times we handle, what it costs and which paperwork customs requires. At Horizont Atlantic we have more than 15 years behind us and our own base in the El Mayorazgo industrial estate (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), so the lorry that unloads at your new home is ours, not a last-minute subcontractor's. We collect at your mainland address and deliver your furniture assembled in Tenerife, at a fixed price agreed in the quote.
What the mainland-to-Tenerife route looks like
Every mainland removal to Tenerife combines an overland leg (collection at your home and transfer to the port of departure) and a sea leg to the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the main port of the western province and one of the two great points of entry to the archipelago. We choose the port of departure based on where you live, because that is what determines the transit time:
- Cadiz — the closest to the islands: around 5 days at sea. It is the natural departure point if you live in Seville, Huelva, Cordoba, Cadiz or Malaga.
- Valencia — regular line with around 6 days transit, for Valencia, Castellon and Alicante.
- Barcelona — weekly direct line, around 7 days, for Catalonia and the Mediterranean arc.
- Inland origins (Madrid, Zaragoza, Castile and Leon…) — we consolidate the load through a cross-dock towards whichever port best fits the sailing date, with a total transit of around 9 days.
On top of those days at sea you need to add collection and packing at origin, customs clearance and final delivery. These are indicative transit times: they depend on the shipping line's sailings and on the time of year (August and the start of the school year concentrate demand).
Which cities we depart from for Tenerife
We collect door to door anywhere in mainland Spain, whether you live in a provincial capital or in an inland village. The routes we move most have their own page with the details of each origin: Madrid to Tenerife, Barcelona to Tenerife, Valencia to Tenerife, Seville to Tenerife and Zaragoza to Tenerife. If your city is not on that list it makes no difference: the circuit is the same, only the overland leg to the port changes.
Groupage or full container
The decision depends on the volume you are moving. With groupage you share a container with other shipments and pay only for the cubic metres you occupy: it is the most cost-effective option for studios, one or two-bedroom flats and partial shipments. With a full container (20 or 40 foot) your belongings travel alone, with a fixed sailing date and less handling of the load: it pays off for large homes, houses with a lot of furniture or when you need the date pinned down to the day. In the quote we tell you which of the two works out better in your particular case, with the figures in front of you.
Where we deliver in Tenerife
We unload at the Port of Santa Cruz and distribute across the whole island with our own crew. We work daily in the metropolitan area (Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristobal de La Laguna), the tourist and residential south — Adeje, Arona, Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, Granadilla de Abona and El Medano — and the north — Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos and the Orotava valley. We know the difficult access points: historic centres with narrow streets in La Laguna or La Orotava, southern developments without a lift and homes on steep slopes. Where necessary we include a crane or lifting platform in the quote rather than discovering the problem on loading day.
Customs declaration and change-of-residence relief
The Canary Islands sit outside the EU common customs territory for VAT purposes, so every removal to Tenerife needs a DUA (Single Administrative Document) to clear the goods. We handle it. And if you are moving because of a change of residence, you are entitled to the relief that exempts used household effects from IGIC and AIEM: to claim it you need to evidence your previous registered address (normally 12 months or more outside the Canaries), register on the island and submit a valued inventory. We tell you exactly which supporting documents you need and when, so your load does not sit in port waiting for a piece of paper.
What the service includes
Our removal to Tenerife is comprehensive: reinforced sea-freight packing (essential because of humidity and the movement of the crossing), dismantling and reassembly of furniture at both ends, bridging storage on either side if your departure date and the date you get the keys do not match, insurance on the declared value and the option of shipping your car in the same container, which almost always works out cheaper than booking a separate vehicle transport. If you need storage once on the island, we have our own furniture storage in Tenerife.
How much a removal to Tenerife costs
We work on payment by actual volume: we measure what your furniture and boxes take up and you pay for that, with no inflated flat rates. As a reference, an average flat of around 25 m³ in groupage from Madrid or Barcelona falls into an indicative range of €1,800 to €2,600, and a complete home in an exclusive container goes up from there depending on origin and volume. What moves the price is the volume, the city of origin (and therefore the port), the option chosen and the extras: storage, full packing, crane or vehicle transport. We give you the fixed quote within 24-48 hours with every item itemised.
Moving within Tenerife or between islands?
This page covers moves from mainland Spain to Tenerife. If what you need is to change home within the island, see our page on removals in Tenerife. If you are moving to Tenerife from another island in the archipelago, the right service is inter-island removals. And if you want to compare all the other mainland destinations to the archipelago, the starting point is removals to the Canary Islands.
Removals to the rest of the archipelago
If your destination is not Tenerife, we have a dedicated page for every island with its ports, transit times and delivery areas: Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

The sea transit is around 5 days from Cadiz, 6 from Valencia and 7 from Barcelona. From inland origins such as Madrid or Zaragoza the whole journey comes to around 9 days because the load goes through a cross-dock. To that you add collection, packing and customs clearance: from the moment you sign, allow 7 to 10 days for an exclusive container with a fixed date and 10 to 14 for groupage.
For an average flat of 25 m³ in groupage from Madrid or Barcelona, the indicative range is €1,800 to €2,600. A complete home in an exclusive container starts from there and rises with volume and origin. The price depends on the actual cubic metres, the port of departure, the option chosen (groupage or container) and extras such as storage, full packing or car transport. We confirm it in writing within 24-48 hours.
No, if you are moving because of a change of residence. The change-of-address relief exempts used household effects from IGIC and AIEM, provided you can evidence your previous registered address (as a rule 12 months or more outside the Canaries), register on the island and submit a valued inventory. The DUA is compulsory in every case and we handle it within the fixed price.
Yes. We offer door-to-door collection anywhere in mainland Spain, including small and inland towns. What changes with your address is the overland leg to the port of departure and, with it, the total transit time: from the south we sail from Cadiz (fastest) and from inland we consolidate towards Cadiz, Valencia or Barcelona depending on the date.
Not necessarily on the day of the crossing itself. It is very common for the customer to fly out while the removal travels by sea. What we do need is someone authorised at delivery to say where each item goes and sign for it. If the property is not yet available, we keep your belongings in our bridging storage in Tenerife and deliver when you can.
Yes. We ship the vehicle in a closed container — the sensible choice for private cars — and include it in the same quote and the same customs declaration as the removal, so you do not have to book or file anything separately. If your removal is already travelling in an exclusive container and there is space left, using that gap for the car is usually considerably cheaper than a standalone shipment.
