REQUEST A QUOTEIf you are organizing a move to Tenerife from mainland Spain, this is the page you need: here we explain how the route works, what real timelines we manage, how much it costs and what paperwork you need to present at customs. At Horizont Atlantic we have had our own base for over 15 years in the El Mayorazgo Industrial Park (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), so the truck that unloads at your new home is ours, not that of a subcontractor hired at short notice. We pick up from your mainland home and deliver the furniture assembled in Tenerife, with a fixed price from the quote.
What the route from mainland Spain to Tenerife is like
Every move from mainland Spain to Tenerife combines a land leg (pickup at your home and transfer to the shipping port) and a sea leg to the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the main port in the western province and one of the two major entry points to the archipelago. We choose the departure port based on where you live, because the timeline depends on that:
- Cádiz — the closest to the islands: around 5 days of sailing. It's the natural departure if you live in Seville, Huelva, Córdoba, Cádiz or Málaga.
- Valencia — regular line with around 6 days of sailing, for Valencia, Castellón and Alicante.
- Barcelona — weekly direct line, around 6 days of sailing, for Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast.
- Interior origins (Madrid, Zaragoza, Castile and León…) — we consolidate cargo via cross-dock towards the port that best fits the departure date, with a total transit of around 9 days.
You need to add the pickup and packing at origin, customs clearance and final delivery to those sailing days. These are indicative transit times: they depend on line departures and the time of year (August and course changes concentrate demand).
What cities we depart from to Tenerife
We pick up door to door at any point in mainland Spain, whether from a capital city or an interior town. The routes we handle most have their own page with details of each origin: Madrid to Tenerife, Barcelona to Tenerife, Valencia to Tenerife, Seville to Tenerife and Zaragoza to Tenerife. If your city is not on that list, no problem: the circuit is the same, only the land journey to the port changes.
Groupage or full container
The decision depends on the volume you are moving. With groupage you share the container with other shipments and pay only for the cubic meters you occupy: it's the most cost-effective for studios, one- or two-bedroom apartments and partial shipments. With full container (20 or 40 feet) your belongings travel alone, with a fixed departure date and less cargo handling: it makes sense for large homes, houses with lots of furniture or when you need to adjust the date to the day. In the quote we tell you which of the two works better in your specific case, with the figures laid out.
Where we deliver in Tenerife
We unload at the Port of Santa Cruz and distribute throughout the island with our own team. We work daily in the metropolitan area (Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna), the tourist and residential south —Adeje, Arona, Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, Granadilla de Abona and El Médano— and the north —Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos and the La Orotava valley—. We know the difficult accesses: historic centres with narrow streets in La Laguna or La Orotava, southern housing developments without lifts and sloping homes. When necessary, we include crane or platform lift service in the quote rather than discovering it on loading day.
DUA and exemption for change of residence
The Canary Islands are outside the common EU customs territory for VAT purposes, so every move to Tenerife requires a DUA (Single Administrative Document) to clear the goods. We handle it. And if you are relocating due to change of residence, you are entitled to the exemption that waives IGIC and AIEM on second-hand goods: to qualify, you must prove your previous registration (normally 12 months or more outside the Canary Islands), register yourself on the island and present a valued inventory. We tell you exactly what documentation you need and when, so your cargo doesn't get stuck at the port waiting for a document.
What the service includes
Our Tenerife move is comprehensive: reinforced maritime packing (essential due to humidity and movement during sailing), disassembly and assembly of furniture at origin and destination, bridging storage on both sides if the departure and entry dates to the home don't coincide, insurance on declared value and the option to take your car in the same container, which is almost always cheaper than hiring separate vehicle transport. If you need storage once on the island, we have our own furniture storage in Tenerife.
How much does a move to Tenerife cost
We work on payment by actual volume: we measure what your furniture and boxes occupy and you pay for it, with no inflated flat rates. As a reference, an average apartment of around 25 m³ in groupage from Madrid or Barcelona moves in an indicative range of 1,800 to 2,600 €, and a complete home in exclusive container goes up from there depending on origin and volume. What varies the price is the volume, the city of origin (and therefore the port), the chosen method and extras: storage, integral packing, crane or vehicle transport. We deliver you the fixed quote in 24-48 hours with all items broken down.
Are you moving within Tenerife or between islands?
This page covers moves from mainland Spain to Tenerife. If what you need is to move within the island, check our page on moves in Tenerife. If you are moving from another archipelago island to Tenerife, the service is inter-island moves. And if you want to compare other mainland destinations to the archipelago, the starting point is moves to the Canary Islands.
Moves to the rest of the archipelago
If your destination is not Tenerife, we have our own page for each island with its ports, timelines and delivery areas: Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

The maritime transit is around 5 days from Cádiz, 6 days from Valencia and 6 days from Barcelona. From inland origins such as Madrid or Zaragoza, the total is around 9 days because the cargo goes through cross-dock. To that you must add collection, packaging and customs clearance: from when you sign, allow between 7 and 10 days for exclusive container with confirmed date and 10 to 14 for groupage.
For an average flat of 25 m³ in groupage from Madrid or Barcelona, the indicative range is €1,800 to €2,600. A complete home in an exclusive container starts from there and rises with volume and origin. The price depends on the actual cubic metres, the port of departure, the option chosen (groupage or container) and extras such as storage, full packing or car transport. We confirm it in writing within 24-48 hours.
No, if you are moving because of a change of residence. The change-of-address relief exempts used household effects from IGIC and AIEM, provided you can evidence your previous registered address (as a rule 12 months or more outside the Canaries), register on the island and submit a valued inventory. The DUA is compulsory in every case and we handle it within the fixed price.
Yes. We offer door-to-door collection anywhere in mainland Spain, including small and inland towns. What changes with your address is the overland leg to the port of departure and, with it, the total transit time: from the south we sail from Cadiz (fastest) and from inland we consolidate towards Cadiz, Valencia or Barcelona depending on the date.
Not necessarily on the day of the crossing itself. It is very common for the customer to fly out while the removal travels by sea. What we do need is someone authorised at delivery to say where each item goes and sign for it. If the property is not yet available, we keep your belongings in our bridging storage in Tenerife and deliver when you can.
Yes. We ship the vehicle in a closed container — the sensible choice for private cars — and include it in the same quote and the same customs declaration as the removal, so you do not have to book or file anything separately. If your removal is already travelling in an exclusive container and there is space left, using that gap for the car is usually considerably cheaper than a standalone shipment.
