How your move reaches Gran Canaria

The transfer always has two phases. First we pick up and pack at your mainland residence and take the cargo to the loading port; then it travels by sea to La Luz, where our team retrieves it and makes the final door to door delivery. The usual sea transits are approximately 5 days from Cádiz, 6 days from Valencia and 6 days from Barcelona. If you depart from an origin without a port —Madrid, Zaragoza and in general the mainland interior— we consolidate via cross-dock and the total is around 9 days. These are indicative transit times, subject to shipping line departures and season.

Groupage or full container

Gran Canaria is, together with Tenerife, the destination with the most departures, and that makes groupage work especially well: as there are more shipments consolidating to La Luz, the containers fill up faster and you wait less than for a smaller island. You share space and you only pay for the actual volume you occupy. The exclusive container makes sense if you move a complete home, if you want a fixed departure date or if you prefer that the cargo is not handled when consolidating. DUA and exemption for change of residence

Due to the special tax regime of the Canary Islands, any shipment from the Mainland requires customs clearance: the DUA is mandatory and we handle it. If the reason for the move is a change of residence, you can benefit from the exemption that exempts used goods from IGIC and AIEM. You must prove previous registration outside the Canary Islands, register in Gran Canaria and provide a valued inventory of what you are moving. We prepare the documentation and coordinate with customs so that the container is not retained.

What the service includes

The quote includes reinforced marine packing, disassembly and assembly of furniture, bridge storage at origin or at destination if dates don't work out, insurance on the declared value and the possibility of sending your car in the same container. An average apartment of about 25 m³ in groupage from Madrid or Barcelona is in an indicative range of 1,800 to 2,600 €; in exclusive container the starting point is higher and depends on the origin. The cargo arrives in two ways, depending on the origin and dates: shipped from a port in Northern Europe to the Puerto de La Luz and Las Palmas, or consolidated by road at our mainland cross-dock to leave on the regular line to the Canary Islands. We choose the one that leaves first and is more economical for your volume, and we explain it to you in the quote instead of leaving it as «international transport».

There is a point that is worth understanding from the beginning, because it surprises almost everyone: the Canary Islands is outside the VAT customs territory of the European Union. That means your move needs a DUA and goes through customs even if it comes from an EU country. If the origin is the United Kingdom, to the Canary Islands procedure is also added the British export clearance after Brexit. We handle both ends, so you don't have to hire a customs agent on your own or appear before any administration.

The good news is that the exemption for change of residence works the same way for those arriving from outside Spain: your used personal goods can be exempt from IGIC and AIEM if you prove previous residence in your country of origin and register in the destination municipality. It is the difference between paying taxes on your own home's furniture and not paying them, so we prepare it with the documentation from day one.
